My oldest son, Ashton, is getting ready to go into the fourth grade this year. For the first couple years that he was in school - we paid for and he ate hot lunch at school everyday. Then I happen to watch this documentary about school lunches. It talked about the sodium, fat, sugar and all the preservatives that are kids were putting into their bodies everyday just from school lunches. It talked about the amount of sugar that goes into a kids body over just one week from drinking chocolate milk at school each day.

I'm totally one of those moms. And freaked out.
We try to eat pretty healthy in our house.

After that, I started packing Ashton's lunch everyday.
He never seemed to mind.

I try to mix it up for him - sandwiches some days, wraps and every hot lunches about once a week.

The problem I've heard from some parents that either already pack lunches for their kids or want to. Is that they wonder about the number of plastic sandwiches baggies that are getting tossed everyday day.

That's why I like ECOlunchboxes, these cute little stainless steal containers are BPA free, lead free, resusable for years, very reasonably priced...and they're cute!

This is the two piece oval lunchbox.  This would be perfect for a sandwich, some veggies and a dig or noodles to go into the smaller container. It's dishwasher safe and only $24.

I also like the reusable bags, these are perfect for chips or crackers!

With my bags, I use them all throughout the week and wash them every Friday - just dumping out any crumbs as the week goes on. These are so handy to have.

Well, that's my two cents today about my back to school must haves! Make sure and stop by Ecolunchbox and check it out. You can also click here to get $4.99 priority shipping or stop by and take this small quiz to get 10% off your entire order!

Have a great day - thanks so much for stopping by!

This has been an awesome week!
I've ran about 5 miles.
I've been doing my weight training with MyDFit.com.
Doing my push-up app on my phone
and really being mindful of what I'm eating.

When I started, I weighed 176
Last week, I weighed 174.5
This week, I weighed in at
172!

That's 4 pounds lost in about 3 weeks.
I'm pretty happy about that!!!

Beyond the numbers, I'm feeling much better.
I already feel skinnier in my clothes
I have a bit more energy
and I'm starting to really enjoy working out...again!

The family and I on an amazing hike this past weekend

Here is what has been working for me this week...

Drinking lots of water!
I got a comment last week from Melinda over at Organizing with a Side of Fabulous that said to drink water like it was my job. It's still hard for me to remember to always be drinking water...but I'm getting much better at it AND I keep reminding myself that it's now MY JOB to drink it!

Good snacks
I'm a really bad snacker.
On some days, every time I pass through the kitchen I think I need to get a little snack. I've been much better about that this past week and even bought (and made) some healthy snacks.
Cheese sticks and energy balls have been my two go-to's this week.
Try these energy balls from Gimme Some Oven...they are really good and super easy to make!

I love these because you can customize them to suit your tastes...mine don't have any coconut flakes in them. And I just threw all the ingredients into my stand mixer, they came together really quick!

Eat a Good Breakfast
I've been eating either high protein cereal that I picked up from Trader Joe's or these Protein Waffles from Heidi Powell's website (the wife of Chris Powell - the extreme weight loss guy!)

Protein Waffle

I'm not a fan of cottage cheese....at all.....but you'll never taste it in these waffles, they are so yummy! I made a triple batch and stuck them in the freezer. In the mornings, I just pop two in the toaster and breakfast is served!

Exercising
I have never been a fan of exercise. But after really finding some things that I think are fun....like running and weight lifting...I'm kind of starting to enjoy it.
I'm working out with MyDFit.com
(which you have to try - you'll love it...and by clicking on that link, you can get two weeks for free!)

And to keep me even more motivated to run, I think the hubby and I are going to sign up to run in the Susan G Komen 5K this October! He runs it every year, I've always been to scared...so this is the year!!

Woot Woot!!!!

I also wanted to say THANK YOU again for all of your comments. I really love reading them. They keep me motivated and are full of great ideas. I really...really appreciate it!

Are you working out...getting back in shape? Tell me what your secrets are!!
Thanks again - have a great Monday!
Hey - before you leave, would you please do me a favor and take this quick reader survey? Thanks!

Thanks so much for reading The Kitchen is My Dance Floor!!! I'm so glad you're here. If you would do me a quick favor and please take this quick survey! Thank You!

A couple weeks ago, I made this pallet sign for myself.
Today, I made this sign for my Grandma...

Her birthday is in a couple of days and the woman has everything.
I couldn't think of a single thing that she would need.
So I decided to make something for her.

I love this sign!
It's the state of Iowa if you're not familiar.

I am in love with this paint color.
It's Coral Reef from Valspar Summer 2013 Collection.
I think it looks beautiful against the pallet wood.

I hope she likes it!

Boys are certainly a different breed.
I read about bloggers that have girls...
they sit nicely and color and making beautiful things together.

I'm lucky if my boys will sit at the table long enough to color one picture.
When I try and show my boys how to do a craft I found online,
I end up getting frusterated...
and do most of the work myself.

I've done some searching with my boys and found some boy-approved crafts.
Here they are...

1. Tornado in a Jar from Ellie Moon
2. Homemade Gak from Chaos to Creativity
3. Paint Stick Swords by Stuff by Ash
4. Catapult from Creekside Learning
5. Sponge Bombs from Inner Child Fun

6. Cardboard Planes from Mini Mocha
7. Balloon Powered Lego Car from The Craft Mummy
8. Tin Foil River from Camo and Bows
9. Fizzy Explosion Bombs from All Things Beautiful
10. Paper Rockets by Curious Kangaroos

We've made the sponge bombs and the kids love them!
They're so easy to make and have lasted us over a year.
I can't wait to try the rest of these projects!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

I am a lucky girl this week!

Sally from Sweet Sally's Bakeshop sent me some of her gorgeous brownies and cookies to try out!

The cookie and brownie packages are so pretty!
These would be perfect to give as gifts!

what can I say?

Uh....they're delicious and I could eat all six of them in one sitting.
They are good!

This is a thick, heavy brownie.
It's got the perfect crust on the outside...
but is moist and chewy in the middle.

The perfect amount of chocolate and sweetness.
I can honestly say that I have never tried a better brownie.
Never.

The Jumbo Sprinkle Cookies are just that...
Jumbo!

This is a thick cookie and so bright and happy!
I'm thinking that if I had a friend that was a little under the weather...
that a package of these cookies would cheer them up
right away!

The Jumbo Sprinkle Cookies are overly sweet, they remind me of a shortbread cookies.
It's the perfect ratio of cookie to sprinkle.
The kids loved these too!

I love the stories about the products that come with them...for example
a childhood friend, whose mom never made sweets.
Except for the above brownies and what a treat it was to get them.

If you're interested in trying some of Sweet Sally's for yourself,
go check out their website at www.SweetSallys.com

Here are some other goodies that tempt my taste buds....
and the

They also have some yummy looking Gluten-Free goodies too!

You can find Sweet Sally's on:

Make sure and head over and pick up some of these awesome treats for yourself
or as a gift for a friend.
If you do that, they'll be your friend forever
and ever.

(I was sent a selection of goods from Sweet Sally's in exchange for my review. I was not compensated for this post. All opinions are 100% my own.)

I have no idea how this happen.
This week, I ate out pizza...
twice

I've barely been on the treadmill
or even working out
because I'm busy getting ready for our vacation

I just weighed myself
and I'm sitting at just under

174.5

So that's a half pound lost this week.
I'm lucky that it's down and not up!

Kind of disappointed in myself this week.
But need to keep my head up and tell myself to get back on the treadmill

This weekend we're on vacation
We rented a cabin and will take the kids to the water park
on paddle boats
and on some great hikes

I'm looking forward to working up a good sweat on those hikes!

Signing off for today - promise they'll be more next time!

Sam

A friend posted this on Facebook.
I have no idea where it originates from.

I wouldn't normally share something like this.
But I am crying.
Dying after reading this.
Hope you like it as much as I did.

Like everything in life, farts have a time and place. However, I never realized that in the wrong time and place, flatulence had enough power to alter my course in history. Well, it can if it’s the third date with the man of your dreams. And, if it makes his eyes burn. If God destined us to be together, I was one SBD away from foiling His plans (that’s “Silent But Deadly” for you prudes).

It was about five years ago. I was trying to lose a few pounds so I was staying away from carbs. That’s when I met my husband, Rob. On our first date, he booked the next two. He liked me. I liked him. Things were looking real good.

He picked me up in a Cobra, Mustang and his pathetic attempt to win me over with a car totally worked. I’m not shallow, but since I spent most of my twenties picking men up because I didn’t want my hair to frizz in their non-air conditioned jalopies on 3 wheels and a 15 year old spare, I welcomed his fancy sports car with open arms.

We arrived at the restaurant and Rob was ordering food I hadn’t allowed myself to eat in years. I didn’t want to be “that girl” so I ate, drank, and oh, was I merry. Later we shopped a bit. Rob surprised me by buying an expensive pair of shoes that he caught me eyeing. Was this love?

That’s when it happened. Gas strikes in two different ways – uncontrollable toots or sharp, shooting pains that feel a lot like dying. I thought I was dying. Not to make a scene, I told Rob I suddenly wasn’t feeling well and probably needed to head home.

On the way home in his Cobra, he tried to hold my hand and ask me lots of questions, but I wasn’t having any of it. The pain was so bad it felt like I was being stabbed with a bunch of tiny forks. Then I realized …

My God, help me. I have a horrendous fart on deck. I’m in trouble. Big trouble.

HOW DO YOU TELL A MAN YOU JUST STARTED DATING, THAT THE REASON YOU ARE WRITHING IN PAIN IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO FART.

The more I held it in, the more pain would shoot through my stomach and down my legs. I was even having to raise myself off the seat, gripping on to my door and the dashboard.

“Seriously, you need to hurry – I’m in a lot of pain.” I managed to say through gritted teeth.

“Wow, it’s that bad? What’s wrong? Do I need to take you to a hospital?”

How do you tell a man you just started dating that the reason you’re writhing in pain is because you have to fart?

Well, you can either tell him, or like me, let the fart speak for itself.

People, hear me. There was nothing I could do. As impressive as I am with sphincter control, this was out of my hands. Slowly, it leaked out. The more I tried to stop it, the more it forced its way through the door. However, to my pleasant surprise, there was no sound. I sat silently, sweat accumulating above my upper lip. Ok, maybe I got away with it. Maybe I’m home free. Then it hit me. Not an idea, a cloud. A horrific, fart cloud. Not in a, “am I smelling something?” sort of way. More like a “is someone dead and rotting in your trunk and am I in hell?” sort of way.

Suddenly, I panicked. “Roll down the windows!” I screamed (yes, I literally screamed it like I was in a horror movie).

“What? Why?” Rob asked, starting to freak out because I was freaking out.

“I can’t roll down the windows, unlock it! UNLOCK IT!”

“What’s going on?” Rob yells back to me, “Why are you …” then it hit him. I could see it in his eyes. Was it surprise? Horror? Water started to accumulate at the base of his eyelids, “Oh my God, I CAN TASTE IT!” he screamed.

“Roll down the windows!” As I screamed, the toots started to flood out uncontrollably. I scratched and clawed at the window like I was being kidnapped. Rob, unable to see either by fart cloud or panic, kept turning on the windshield wipers instead of unlocking the window.

It was chaos. We were acting like we were under siege by gun fire. We were under siege alright, just not by gun fire.

Finally he was able to hit the right control and he rolled down our windows. We both gulped in fresh air. I was horrified, yet happy to be alive, then remembered I just farted on the man of dreams, then sort of wished I was dead.

We sat silently for the rest of the way home. Although the shooting pains had subsided, I now desperately needed to use the bathroom, in an urgent, explosive kind of way.

He pulled up to my apartment and before he could come to a stop I had already jumped out, “Ok, thanks for dinner, sorry about the fart, love the shoes!” and ran in to my apartment like I was running from the cops.

I burst through my door and ran straight for the bathroom, where I was finally able to unleash and make noises that no one should ever, EVER, hear coming from another person.

Then I heard it. Rob’s voice. Right. Outside. My. Bathroom. Door.

“Anna? You left your shoes in my car and your front door was open. Where do you want me to put them?”

“Get away from the door!” I scream like Reagan from The Exorcist.

“Ok, I’m sorry. Are you okay?”

*toot* *toot* *splatter* *ungodly noise*

“I’m fine, Rob – just leave the shoes there. I’ll call you later okay?”

“Okay, are you sure you’re …”

“I’m fine! Get away from the door!”

This man! I mean, I love him, but take a freakin’ hint!

Finally, I heard the front door shut, and the Cobra engine zoom away. I thought that was the last I’d hear from him. I didn’t think it was possible to ever see a man again after he screams he can taste your fart after only knowing you for 48 hours.

But, to my surprise, I did. A couple days later, actually. Now we’re married and he’s lying on the couch while I type this … “It was your rack that saved you,” he just lovingly reminded me.

Since it's so dang hot outside this week (in the 90's) we decided to take the kids up to Chuck-e-Cheese.
Not my favorite place, but the kids had fun running around in there and playing games.
Afterwards, we stopped by the Goodwill in the same little shopping plaza and I found a couple of things that I liked.
Keep in mind, that I don't claim to have any fashion sense...at all.

Most of my friends hate (some with a passion) that I don't wear super cute and brint pink shoes or whatever and that I sometimes tend to wear my shirts and pants a few sizes bigger then I actually am.
(They're comfortable!)
I'm making an effort to dress nicer and in my size.

Anyways, here's what I got...

I keep seeing alot about jean jackets being in style. This one was $0.99!
 (Bailey's Point brand)

Gray Cardigan from Merona....also $0.99!

These shoes may not be the cutest thing on the planet, but I love them.
I get shin splints really bad...and get them all the time, so comfortable shoes are a must for me.
Privo by Clarks and they cost me $3.99!

That's it for my "fashion" finds today.
Now, I need to figure out what I'm suppose to wear with that jean jacket?!?!?
Please help if you can!
